Guests at a hotel in Playa del Inglés were forced to evacuate during the early hours of this morning after a fire broke out in the building’s kitchen area, leaving three people with minor injuries.
The incident happened at the Green Field hotel shortly before 4:00am. According to police sources, the fire started in a kitchen extractor system after a slow-burning combustion caused gases to build up before igniting, triggering an explosion.
The blast also damaged several water pipes inside the hotel. Firefighters from San Bartolomé de Tirajana arrived quickly and managed to cool the affected area, allowing guests to safely return to their rooms later in the morning.
Three people were treated for minor smoke inhalation, while one person also suffered a cut to the head. Emergency ambulance crews attended, but none of the injured required hospital treatment.
Authorities say the damage was limited to a specific area of the hotel, and the hotel continues to operate normally.
Three fire engines were sent to the area, with crews remaining there until around 5.30am. Officers from the Local Police, National Police and Canary Islands Emergency Service also took part in the operation.
