A 61-year-old man was injured after being hit by an electric scooter in Santa Cruz de Tenerife yesterday morning (Monday). The incident happened in Pasaje Aguajilba, with the Canary Islands Emergency Services receiving an alert at 9:15am.
According to the information provided to the emergency coordination centre, a pedestrian had been struck by a personal mobility vehicle and needed medical assistance.
After receiving the alert, CECOES immediately dispatched a basic-life-support ambulance to the location given.
Taken to hospital
When medical personnel arrived, they assessed the pedestrian and found that he had suffered moderate injuries but needed further medical evaluation.
After receiving initial treatment at the scene, he was transferred by ambulance to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.
Local Police officers also attended the incident and carried out the corresponding procedures.
The accident comes amid continuing attention on the use and rules for electric scooters and other personal mobility vehicles on roads and in urban areas across the Canary Islands.
Electric scooter users are required to comply with traffic regulations, while pedestrians remain among the most vulnerable road users when collisions occur.
